Downton Abbey star Joanne Froggart switches on the Fortnum & Mason Christmas Tree Lights at The Royal Exchange
On Wednesday 20th November, The Royal Exchange, the luxury shopping and dining destination in the heart of the City, celebrated the Christmas season with its annual tree lighting ceremony.
Guest of honour, Downton Abbey star Joanne Froggatt, officiated the event by lighting the magnificent 25ft Fortnum & Mason Christmas tree. Joanne said, “I was so pleased to be asked to switch on the Christmas Lights at The Royal Exchange. It was a terrific event and the lights are enchanting”
Hosted by Oxford Properties Group, the evening saw more than 250 guests gather at the historic landmark to admire the spectacular Fortnum & Mason tree decorated with miniature versions of Fortnum’s famous hampers and hundreds of sparkling ornaments.
Visitors to the City were treated to carolling performances from the outstanding East London Chorus, paired with complimentary mulled wine, hot chocolate and scrumptious minced pies from Fortnum & Mason.
Joining Joanne Froggatt to officiate the ceremony was Henry Shearer, Head of UK, Office and Retail at Oxford Properties. During the event Shearer commented, “We are pleased to add a touch of festive cheer to the City and would like to thank Fortnum & Mason for decorating our tree for a second year. The Royal Exchange is the leading contemporary and luxury shopping destination in the heart of the City, and with over 30 boutiques we are sure you’ll find the ideal present for friends and family this Christmas”.
Ewan Venters, CEO, Fortnum & Mason commented, “we were delighted to deck the halls once again at this year’s lighting of the Fortnum & Mason Christmas tree at The Royal Exchange, marking a year of Fortnum’s store and restaurant at The Royal Exchange. The lights are officially on, and London is most certainly open!”
Following the illumination of the tree, The Royal Exchange opened its doors for an exclusive shopping evening featuring special offers and promotions from brands such as Jo Malone, London, Montblanc, Leica, Penhaligon’s, Aspinal of London and Smythson. Guests escaped the cold with a Biskie masterclass at Cutter and Squidge, a champagne and wine tasting at Fortnum & Mason. Guests also delved into archive pieces with Georg Jensen, learnt about bespoke services at Halcyon Days and enjoyed a Christmas lights photography workshop with Leica.
